Hi,
which state do you live in? Do you live in a built up area, or out in the countryside?
We need to know so we can try to positively identify which species you have.

Fruit and veggies aren't a good diet for most species of tortoise. I would cut out the fruit completely. It's way to high in sugar, not good for their digestive system.
Veggies such as corn, peas, beans, brocoli, coliflower etc, shouldn't be fed either.

In the wild desert species eat edible plants, flowers, weeds, opuntia cacus ( dethorned), clovers, vetches.........

Please look at the web site below and see if any of the torts resemble the one you've found.

Post again with more info.
Sheel color, skin color, how many nails on front and back feet..........

If it's a desert species native to the US, it's more than likely a protected species. Depending on which state you're in it could be ilegal to keep it.

Anyway please post back, we need to identify it so you can be given the correct care info.

Look at ALL the photos, but especially leopard tortoises, sulcata, gopher and desert......

Terry.
