: Baytril is certified for use in mammals. That's it.>>
i'm not sure about the accuracy of this statement..baytril is commonly used in reptiles in injectable form, and there are lots of dosing guides just for baytril in herps..in fact the clinic I work at recently got a great series of books on exoctic animal care, and doses for injectable baytril were given there, the chelonin section having been written by Dr. Babara Bonner.
< I don't agree with this...you stated in an earlier post that baytril is absorbed through the stomach, I do not think this is true. Injections are given intermucularly, and I beleive are metabolized by the kidneys or liver. While overdosing of any antibiotic may run the risk of sterile gut, I think this may be secondary scince you are dealing w/ an already comprimised animal. < I am not familiar w/ many torts/turts getting tablet form of baytril..this would be most difficult to administer. It is also very bitter tasting. Liquid or injectable is prefered. In most cases you are dealing w/ an animal that is not eating, also a side effect of baytril can be loss of appitite. That said, I guess I don't understand your reason for posting about all this baytril stuff. do you have a sick tort? or are you just looking for information? Use of these medicines and their effectiveness can easily be found in medical journals or veterinary books. you say you have a freind who is a vet? Ask for his copy of Mader and do some research.
