Heather, the reason I persist on this point is because more damage is done by implying water is an option. I don't think it is. Many vets that I have discussed this with concur. As was pointed out in the past and continues to be pointed out is that if the animal, particularly desert types like sulcata, CDT, and kleinmanni are deficient in hydration urates (the white stuff) noticably increases. At the extreem end tortoises have died from this. I haven't heard of any implication of tortoises dieing from making available too much water. In other words I haven't heard of a healthy tortoise drinking itself to death.
