: we aren't implying that water is an option. of course they need water. however, i don't keep standing water in their enclosures either. i provide fresh water to them a couple of times throughout the week. that way, i can observe them, can see if they drink, good opportunity to weigh them, clean their shells and their overall general appearance. if they pee in the water, i can immediately dump in out and provide a fresh bowl. after drinking and going through their check, they get go back to the enclosure! they never have contaminated water this way either, no place for mosquitos to lay eggs and no scummy water buildup!
