Yes, well he has years of experience, and research behind him. Has worked with, kept and bred a large variety of species. Written numerous books, articles and research papers on tortoises, once again many species. Has videos on the captive care of many herps , an excellent web site and discussion list.
Infact a new draft on pyramiding has just been posted to the shared files of the list.
Oh that's right you're not a member, sorry.
By the way wasn't it you who stated that it seemed to you the Emperor has no clothes on? So I believe you're just as guilty of insulting. Really he just asked you for some data to support your "idea", something that will take longer than a few months of keeping one sulcata.

You should join the discussion lists Niki, we all work very hard together. Recently between a few of the tortoise lists we raised over $7000 dollars to keep an animal care center in South Africa going. This care center takes in abused and ill sulcatas and leopards, as well as other animals.
Many of us are directly involved in other aspects of tortoise conservation too, or tortoise/turtle rescue and rehab.

This list is often the first place new tortoise owners find, so it's important that correct info is given out.To date there is far more data pointing to protein as a cause of pyramiding. Than there is against it.
Terry.

Niki,
if you are so sure about your " idea" that protein doesn't cause pyramiding, please back it up with what you've discovered through your extensive research.

: came back from a day trip to SC and was reading to catch up on
: the forum. First of all, I saw some nice Galapagos torts,
: big ones! Also a big sea turtle (OK but there's no sea turtle
: forum here, sorry! lol) Unfortunantly there were also many
: many little water turtles (tiny 1-2 inches) for sale for
: $11.95 and of course you could buy a plastic critter keeper
: for them right there too. Uggh.
: Trying to read up on the protein debate thing, but I'll have
: to say that A.C. Highfield, scientific as he may be, manages
: to insult at every turn. Uggh again. niki
