RES feeding

I've heard that RES may enjoy an occasional feeder fish for a meal. How many days between feedings should I wait to feed my RES if I do feed him a fish. Are there certain types of feeder fish that I shouldn't feed my RES? My RES is 4inches long, about how small should the feeder fish be? And lastly, are there any concerns that my turtle may get sick if the feeder fish has some type of illnes/disease?
