I don't change my normal feeding schedule when they get fish, which is maybe once a month, its a treat not a large part of its natural diet.
Goldfish are very fatty, when I do buy them I get Tuffies they are small enough that they don't get shredded when they are eaten, but I prefer to set a fish trap and collect a few shiners saves money.
Also when I am working in the garden and find some worms or slugs I offer them, its a treat, not meant for them to gorge them.
