Um.... today while i was giving a series of speeches on snakes... which includes the snakes native to west virginia... i got a notion in my head...
black rat snakes around here display some characteristics of corn snakes.... in babies, for example there are stripes like a corn snake after the colaca on the tail... and according to my snake book e.o.o. isn't supposed to have that.. also the darkning of the belly going down from the neck is patterned in blocks like a corns belly....
ive gone east from here (Virginia) and seen e.o.o where it darkens gradually with speckles of black as opposed to blotches....
the black rats around here arnt particularly light... or apparently patterened as adults which would make people think of hybridization between the two...
but do you think it's posssible that only certain corn traits came out of the supposed hybrid and the e.o.o gene to darken up covers the saddles of even the corn influence ...
i donno im rambling...
also before they blacken up a lot of the rats around here have something caparably to the corn's spear on the head.... not exactly but close...
yeah, well im tired..
in replies are appreciated...
thanks for entertaining my notion :)
