Even though the time for brumation is winding down (finished for some), I thought it might be interesting to hear how you brumate your animals.
Mine get their last feeding on Halloween weekend. Two weeks later I turn off the heat tape and allow them to be at room temp for two more weeks. Thanksgiving weekend, I put them in the "cold room". My cold room is a closet that is located at the southwest corner of my house. I have removed the insulation from above the closet and put an indoor/outdoor thermometer outside the door with the lead going into the closet so I can monitor temperatures. The temperature in the closet ranges from 73ºF to 57ºF but usually stays in the 60ºF to 62ºF range. I use locking rubbermaid boxes with a hide box and a water bowl and change the water every two weeks. The babies come out on the first of February and the adults come out on the first of March.
What technique do you use?
