can any rat snake bite make you very sick or ill

I have a 4ft grey rat snake,and a 3ft black rat snake that
are ok for a while when i get them out of thier tanks,but i keep
getting bitten.
I am a diabetic,who has had 3 very bad virus infections last
year which made me very sick,so as a pro-cortion i now where
rubber gloves when handling the snakes,i dont mind them biting
me though,and would very much like to know if the snake bites
could be the cause of my sickness and flu like symptoms or not?
could any one advise me on if i could take the gloves off,and
rule the snakes out from my problems,
