Rat snake turning yellow?

My hatchling rat snake, Philip, just finished a shed [much to my surprise...he apparently went through the whole shed cycle in two or three days] - and he's turning yellow. From his neck down to about the middle of his body, his lateral scales have taken on a yellowish hue.
This is what he looked like about two weeks ago [he was in blue, as you can see]:

Is he sick, or developing adult coloration? For that matter, what ssp. IS he?
