: I'm very interested in getting some Trans pecos rats and I was looking for husbandry advice or a great care sheet. I have heard very mixed views on keeping this species like, you must not give them water or they will die, I have also read that water can make them regurgitate? Any and all advice is appreciated.

Not sure where to find a care sheet on them but I have 1.3 adults and I keep plenty of water in the cage at all times. I live in Arizona where there is not high humidity levels. I have heard the same thing about the water. I think (And this is just my personal oppinion) they do not tolerate high humidity well. Poor ventelation in small plastic boxes with a big full water bowl creates high humidity. I think this can be one of the causes of regurge in these guys. One of my females regurged this spring and I noted the humidity in the cage at that time was higher than usual. Right now it is hot and dry and the subocs are eating great and having no problems. I do keep a smaller water bowl in the cage than I do for corns and this is of course to cut down on humidity.
Hope you get some subocs and enjoy them as much as I do.
