From what I understand, large boas and pythons don't need hide boxes, but for colubrids it's absolutely essential.
We used gloves to handle a nippy king snake, and it worked. A snake's sense of smell is good enough to get through the gloves.
In terms of length, try about 15-20 minutes a day. But leave them alone for a couple of days after eating.
BTW, if your carpet python's cage is too small for a hide box, it may also be too small (or too crowded) for the snake. How big is the python?
: he does not have a hide box. should all snakes have hide boxes? i ask because i do have 2 other snakes, a ball python and a carpet python, neither have hide boxes. im not sure if putting a hide box in the carpet pythons cage is practical. its a 30 gallon on its side so there is more room for him to climb. perhaps some foliage would relax him too?
: can i really wear gloves? i didnt know if he had to get used to my smell and whether or not the gloves would prohibit that.
: when u say handle it daily, do u have any time length in mind? it would probably be a good idea if i handled all of them daily, except of course after feeding. if u dont handle a snake for a few weeks, would it be normal for them to not be as tame as u remembered?
