The cage sizes sound fine for the moment, though you may have to move them into larger ones if they get appreciably bigger. The water dish sounds a little small; it should be big enough for the snake to curl up in. The hide box should be small enough that a coiled snake would touch the sides. Unless the base of this branch is truly massive, it sounds to me like you are worrying a bit too much about the ground space available. Better to give them a hide box and a big enough water dish; they'll climb over them anyway, so it's not as much loss of space as you might think.
: all the snakes are in 30 gallon aquariums, and all are about 3 1/2 feet, both the jungle and black rat are slender snakes, both are young, the jungle being 2years. the jungle carpets cage is on its side though. is this too small for him?
: he tends to stay on his branches, occassionally he comes down and coils up on the ground. he has a water dish, approx. 4" in diameter and the base of his branch on the ground. if i put a hide box there, im afraid he wont have much left along the lines of ground space. would it perhaps be better if the cage is set right side up? we could have branches in there to give him more room to stretch out, but would give him less height.
: how big should the hide boxes be? is wide necessary or is slightly taller exceptable?
