Thanks all! I'd love to hear of any word of mouth stuff that anyone has heard about others who might be working with other ssp. of porphyracea. You don't have to name names I'm just curious. I heard through the grapevine that we may have had a first breeding (don't quote me on the FIRST part) of p. vaillanti in the country which is very cool. Can't wait to see some of the other ssp established!

I'd also like to start a discussion of pricing in regards to the elaphe group. I want to start this off by saying that I believe in a free market where everyone is competitive with their goods (in this case rare/common elaphe). Most of the time competition rewards those with the best service and goods but sometimes the same competition of a market will actually create a pricing implosion and destroy the market altogether.

I'd like the conversation to leave behind all past arguments/differences and the like. There is a core group of us in the country that seem to have an affinity towards the eurasian and asian species of ratsnakes. What I'm wondering is why some of us don't form groups with intentions of upholding pricing and sharing information within ourselves and others. Is this thought crazy?

For example, there could be a porphyracea group that someone could head up and we could dedicate a webpage to (linking to Rex and Sacha's page, of course :)) providing information on husbandry, breeding, success', etc. The goal would be to provide a 'value' to whoever is thinking about working with this particular species. We could also provide a list of 'members', those of us who are breeding these animals and maybe even decide on a round-robin way of selling animals at a standard price agreed to by the group involved. Am I crazy with these thoughts! I guess my goals are threefold:

1) First and foremost, to create a great be-all-end-all updated place for people to see what is going on with a particular species of elaphe.

2) To self-market OUR animals and to create a buzz about them in the general marketplace of snakes. This will get others interested and willing to buy. I hope!

3)To maintain a decent return for all involved. Why pay $1000's of dollars on investment breeders and not get a good return on OUR investments.

Sorry if I have been too wordy here. I'd just like to hear what you all might have to say. My intention is to conversate about this. I am not implying anything about anyone. I also would love to hear from some of the people who are improtantly involved with working with some of the rare elaphe species like Rex or Sacha. I (we) value your opinions. ----glenn
