Ah, the Texas rat, my favorite. Some may say that I am crazy for that! 2 fuzzies a week is a good amount to be feeding him/her.
As for looking "flaky" on his head I am not sure what you mean. If there is actual old skin flacking on his head, he probably needs to be soaked. Do this by placing him/her in a tupperware with about 1/3 inch of luke warm water (76-80 deg) for a couple hours. Make sure to give em air holes!
Yes, all snakes will get cloudy eyes before they shed. Typically the eyes will clear around 3-7 days before they shed.
I offer all my snakes food on feeding day, whether they be in shed or not. It is up to them if they want to eat.
My snakes seem to be a little more cranky when they are in shed, especially if their eyes are cloudy. So I dont really handle them when they are in shed. Some may say that it will stress the snake to handle them when they are in shed, but Texas rats are not too finiky about stress. I do not however handle my snakes after feeding, this can cause them to regurgitate.
Where did you collect your snake at?

: I have a 21" wild caught Texas rat snake that I have had for about a month. He (don't know for sure) is eating 2 thawed fuzzies once a week - is that okay? He is starting to look a little flaky on his head - is he about to shed, do their eyes change to a milky color like I've read other snakes do, and what concerns are there about feeding and handling if he is shedding?
: Any info about Texas rats would be appreciated.
