Our Texas rat was found around new home construction in Richardson Texas(suburb of Dallas). Someone brought to my husband for identification - we have no other snakes, but 7-yr old son is extremely interested in snakes. Husband brought snake home to study and "let go"
but son convinced us to let him keep it (with loud protest from me). Now I like him as much as my son does. The flakiness looks like a few tiny pieces of dried skin/scales on his head. A few weeks ago after a feeding, he spent the day soaking in his water dish. I have not seen him do this since then, but don't know if he does at night. His eyes have not become cloudy since we've had him, but he does seem to be growing longer, hence the question about getting ready to shed. Shoukd I still purposely soak him, or will he do it on his own?
