: Hi
: My porphyracea like it cool. Cooler than most even mandarins are eating at higher temperatures, so I wasn`t surpriced that when the summer came and the temperature began to rise both porphyracea stopped eating and burried them down in moist sphagnum. The temperature continued to rise and even I offered small food items every 5 day they (and most of the other ratsnakes) refused to eat. Yesterday the temperature hit the roof and the coolest place in my house was 28*C I also placed some fuzzy mice in the boxes and both ate emidiately 4 of them each. I also tried feeding the mandarins and they ate as well.
: WHY??? The newer eat here when it is summer,so I am a bit surpriced. I wonder if that is a one time experience or they will keep on eating. If they do they should be in adult size in the fall.
: Best wishes

Soe,
I don't have porphys, yet, but my mandarins are good eaters. They don't eat a lot, but they eat consistently. They eat about one fuzzy, two or three times a month. If you feed them too often, they get too fat. My moellendorffi are kinda the same way with eating.
I've found that the temperatures don't matter quite as much as some people think (they don't have to be always the same). Most Asian rats don't like it over 80*F, but they do need it warm enough to function, including digesting, for at least part of the day.
Temps in my Herp Room fluctuate mostly between 70* and 80*F, in summertime. I think they like a choice of temps, so they can do different things. Generally, warm during the day, and cooler at night, works well for all the Asian ratsnakes. My $.02 worth anyway.
(PS:) Would like to hear other opinions on this topic.
