Yes!! The eggs are hatching. They started "pipping" this morning. Since the incubation time started June 1st, they were probably a day or two old, and the pipping started June 27th, I would estimate the incubation time at 27 to 28 days for this Dion's ratsnake.
Because there's so much variety in this species, and so little real taxonomy has been done on it, it's difficult to talk about the different forms on a level that indicates their distinctness. I think I'll call the South Korean form, Elaphe dione var. "seouliensis", based on the fact they come from Seoul, and I can't find a name in the literature to use. I believe they will eventually be a distinct species, after the taxonomists work that out. Of course, the name is just a suggestion, since I'm not a taxonomist.
