: Thanks for you views on the wild caught issue. You're right about the green rats range, for the most part you can't get a car or even hike into half of the Santa ritas. I'm also being hypocritical by even owning snakes as I'm sure they didn't wild catch themself. But this is a time in the hobby that you can buy just about anything you want (unless there's no money in them) from somebody as captive bred.
: One other thing I want to say about keeping things pure (I'm stealing this from KJ). Even if you went out and found two snakes mating and brought them home, the next year you breed them you're still breeding a pair of snakes that would have never bred with one another again. And that's the end of keeping them pure, if in fact you're saying pure in the sence of untouched by people?
: Thanks for taking the time to respond though. I love to hear what other people have to say.
: Good luck,

Adam,
Thanks for not getting upset with my remarks. What I mean to say when I use the word "pure" is only breeding animals from within the same geographic gene pool. For example, humans are all humans, but there are different races of humans that each originate from different parts of the world and that have different characteristics. There are many different hues of skin color, different races have different average heigths and weights. Likewise, different populations of Green Rats and other snakes(ie: Gray banded kingsnakes, rosy boas, ect..)are different "races", if you will, of triaspis. The Green Ratsnakes that are commonly available on the markets today usually originate from the Santa Ritas or the Chiricahuas. The snakes found in the Santa Ritas are usually a bit duller olive color than the snakes found in a nearby mountain range like the Patagonias. Maybe herpetoculture will never advance far enough to offer the Patagonia race, the Pajarito race, the Baboquivari race, the Whestone race, or any of the other few races of Green Rats that occur in the United States, but nonetheless, they are different and there is nothing wrong with interbreeding the different races, but if you mix afro-american blood with chinese blood, you will never get an eskimo. The same holds true with the different races of the Green Ratsnake which happen to be definable by the locality. There is no intent here by the way of offending anyone of any race.
