: : Well, I've actually never seen one for sale here in Indiana. Admittedly, that's just with local pet stores and a couple trips to the Indianapolis reptile show

: Heheh, coincidentally one of my adult breeder male leucistics came from the Indy show. Bought him there in early 1997 as an adult. A lot of my other obsoleta breeding stock came from there as well, from Joe Street when he was in business. I came home from that show every month with a sackful of hatchlings. I also bought some stuff from Joe each month at the Evansville show at Vanderburg (sp?) Auditorium. It's a shame that show is now defunct.

Last time I went to the Indy show was, I think, in '96... it's only an hour away, but, then again, I don't have a car... or money/space to get anything anyways... (and I'm holding out for snail-eaters, at the moment :) )

: : but still... in that time I've seen quite a number of black rat snakes, and a couple of grey and yellow rats, for sale...

: Hmmm, unless they were albinos, you might want to give the Indiana DNR a call. Last time I checked it was against Indiana state law to sell black or grey rats of the normal flavor.

My understanding of the situation (and maybe they've changed things since last I kept track) was that it was illegal to sell black or grey rats of any variety. #shrug# Most of these would've been before that law went into effect, but, either way, I don't plan on reporting anybody, 'cause I don't intend to help enforce laws I disagree with...

: : Besides, `the most popular obsoleta' isn't that impressive, 'cause obsoletas just aren't very popular...

: Very true, in the mainstream they aren't very popular. But that's OK, I like it like that. I can go to a show and have the pick of what is available, since no one else is even remotely interested in them. :)

:) I never said them being unpopular was a bad thing, mind you. But it does seem kind of a shame to see everyone diving at corn snakes while ignoring better snakes like black rats.

: : I don't know, there are a lot of amel. black rats, too, though god knows why, given how they look...

: Yeah, they are quite 'strikingly' ugly I will have to agree. ;0

Erm. No comment.
