I have a 4' long male yellow rat. After I changed the substrate yesterday, I decided to put in a larger water dish. The water came out of a room temp jug of drinking water, so it was relatively cool. The snake promptly climbed completely and left just the tip of its nose and part of the top of its body sticking out.
Is this a normal behavior? Does it indicate something may be wrong with the set up? I have a small cobra brand heat pad under one end of the tank, and the snake shed just last week. I would have figured the water to be too cool.
