Alcohol Smelling Feeder rats

Purchased some small feeder rats today for my Pacific Gopher. When I unthawed the buggers, they gave off a very alcohol smell. Several questions.... is this common? What if any harm may come to the snake if I feed him these? and lastly, the rats had megga fleas right along with them. Does anyone see a problem with flea infested rats transmitting disease to the snakes?
