Søe, you're right. I have talked to Rick (RC), and it is possible that his are related to mine since they came from the same breeder. Mine are F1 offspring from Russian animals (father is from Rostov, Russia and mother is from Taman, North Caucasus, Russia).
The common name for Elaphe q. sauromates here in the US is "Bulgarian Ratsnake" although that is obviously not always true. I guess I should call mine "Russian Ratsnakes" but then everybody here would think I'm talking about E. schrencki. I think a better common name to use would be "Eastern Four-lined Ratsnake", but in this case the problem is that they don't even have any lines :-)
I have E. schrencki listed on the "Ratsnakes" website as "Amur Ratsnakes - Elaphe schrencki", yet that "common name" is hardly ever used here in the US.
That goes to show again that common names are by no means universal. I think that common names should always be listed along with the scientific (latin) names.
By the way, I need to take some pictures of mine again, now that they're starting to show some color.
Best regards,
Sacha
