Very nice analysis, Sacha. Sometimes we can get more creative with the common names, and sometimes we forget. Thanks to Soe, we are reminded that s. schrencki is not the only Russian ratsnake. I often call mine Russian Amur ratsnakes on my List, as opposed to Chinese or N. Korean Amur ratsnakes.

As a hobbyist interested in Dion's ratsnakes, I'm often confused when people say Russian dione, too. Does it mean East Russia (Sibeia), or West Russian? Could it mean Ukrainian, like some that I have, which was once part of Russia? Maybe we can start learning to be more careful with the common names, but first we need to learn more about geography. Let's face it, not too many Americans are experts on Asian and European geography.
