: That's an old trend. There seems to be some linkage between albinism and one-eyed animals. This probably does NOT have anything to do with the albino trait, BUT just linked traits on a single chromosome (or some other "package" deal as far as inherityance goes). I can name more instances of certain characteristics being inherited with a certain trait, too.

: Just my 2.5 cents,
: KJ

: (P.S.> This post is probably irrelevant because I'm not sure why this was posted, but I seemed to gather that someone was blaming the albino trait for the one-eyedness. I have seen no evidence that this is proven, though.

Please say you're joking, KJ. "There seems to be some linkage"? But this does not equate in your mind to genetic frailty? Evidence by it's nature is not proof. It is what it is. We build evidence from circumstance and proof, combine it with logic, and ultimately we arrive at what will hopefully be accepted as fact. The classified post in question mentions a large percentage of albino babies born with one or NO eyes, and then goes on to state that the normal appearing het babies born of the same breeding were perfect. This amounts to evidence of genetic frailty in the amelanistic animals. "Linked traits on a single chromosome"? In other words, genetic, correct? Would you call blind amelanistic animals born together with healthy normal hets, genetically superior? Is blindness a desirable, inheritable trait? Would you like us to just accept this circumstantial evidence of weakness as a byproduct of osmosis or something. Just coincidence, couldn't possibly be linked to the amelanistic trait. Wait, YOU SAID that amelanism and blindness was a "old trend", didn't you? The Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and Blind Albino Boas. Just fantasy and dumb luck.
You know, KJ, if I didn't know better, I'd say that you argue on these forums just for arguments sake. You know, I say black, you say white.
I'll leave this debate right here and let reasonable people come to their own conclusions. Just to summarize your position though, you state that although albinism and blindness are a "old trend" and that there exists "some linkage", that albinism certainly cannot be to blame. This is almost verbatim from your post above. Following your "logic", it can therefore be assumed that albinism could not possibly equate to genetic frailty. Do I have this right now? Errrrr, alrighty then. You win, KJ. Enjoy the last word on the topic, I've had mine.

Thanks,
Walt
