: Thanx, I'm trying the soking thing in warm water (30 degrees C) with betadine solution in it. This should also steralize the mite bites a bit. First I let them swim in plain warm water and then in the betadine sollution
: one questio though, for how long should I let them soak, I would say 5 minutes, what do you recommend??

I would be careful with the betadine don't let the snake get its head under the water!!!! go for about 5 min would be fine. But like I said wipe the snake with a wash cloth while soaking it as this will "pull off" some of the mites. You could even use a towel and mist the snake with water and let it crawl thru the towel this would have the same general effect. but don't use it as a substitute for soaking use it in addition to soaking for snakes that have a BIG problem with mites.

It takes about 5-7 days(if I remember corectly) for mite eggs to hatch. so doing the soaking every day for 2 weeks should get rid of all of them. Just remember to steralize the cage before putting the snake back in it. Or if you use the sweater boxes as cages just have a clean one ready for the snake to go into after the soak.

P.S. mites usually lay their eggs in the cage not on the snake and they can jump quite a long way so if you have carpet in your snakes room vacuum it daily right before you get the snake out.
