The great plains rat snake is considered a separate species, Elaphe emoryi. As for your other question, I have no idea.

: Is the great plains rat snake still considered by most to be a subspecies of guttata or recognized as a distinct species? Also, how do "Kisatchie" corns figure into this complex? TIA.
