: What are the opinions out there in "ratsnake land"? Is the species status justified? Or should it rather be E. longissima lineata?
: I'm just a hobbyist (not a biologist or taxonomist), and like to know what you think.

Hey Guys,,,
While we're on this E. longissima thing,, what about E. longissima ssp., Persian Aesculapian Snake, listed on Page 168 of Klaus's Book .
This is not E. persica, but a newly "discovered snake", that " closely corresponds with the characteristics of E. l. romano."
I wonder how this fits into the picture ?
Systematic Relationships,,
I believe Klaus is pretty much right-on in his interpretation,(page 35), and I agree with him on most all points.
Now, I'm not a professional, but I've been interested and studying this Genus for many years and like many others out there know that this Genus needs a lot of revision. It's hard to believe that it didn't start with E. rufodorsata ! I think we all agree that shouldn't been the first to go.
Fortunate for us there are a couple of people, "professionals", that are currently working on this problem. It will be VERY interesting to see their results and I look forward to it !
