Soe, I think I see where you're heading with this. Is it like the Eastern fox snakes, Elaphe gloydi? One of the reasons I have this species is because they are becoming so rare in the wild. The habitat destruction for this species is unbelievable. I just found out this week that Ohio is finally protecting gloydi too, along with Michigan and Ontario, Canada. Soon the only places to find these snakes may be on reserves. Do you think keeping them will allow us to later on release them in reserves to keep them from extinction? We would have to keep them as close to wild caught as possible, right?

I use my snakes to help teach conservation in my school. Because of the protection, not too many people are allowed to keep these snakes, however. I don't have a permit to reproduce them yet, but I will try to get one in the future. Any advice on how to handle the E. fox situation will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Soe. You have very good points. Terry.
