Another thig that could be possible, although I've never personally seen this in anything but my mandarin ratsnakes (other mandarin keepers have said this too). Sometimes, a particulaly sensitive snake will start to refuse food even BEFORE they go into the blue! When my mandarins start to sense this, the stop eating.
Although, any beauties I've had usually ate all the way through the "in the blue" proccess.
