Are Texas rats that Bad?

I love the Leusistic Texas rat, but i can not bring myself to deal with a snake that will never calm down? I have spoke with several people that have told me to forget about these guys because they are so nasty? Is this true, and what are your experiences in handling these guys, and opinions?
