: I love the Leusistic Texas rat, but i can not bring myself to deal with a snake that will never calm down? I have spoke with several people that have told me to forget about these guys because they are so nasty? Is this true, and what are your experiences in handling these guys, and opinions?

: Thanks
: BBM

I have owned a leucistic texas rat for five years. She was never a biter. She has bred twice for me. One year the babies were a bit nippy. I kept two of these babies (1998) and they calmed down within a few months. Last year's clutch was very calm. Only a couple of them were nippy. My experience is that is you gently handle them when they are babies, they lose their aggressiveness. The ones I have now never bite. I can handle any time without worry. I highly recommend them. They are a hardy snake that feeds well. If they are a little nippy when they are babies, you can pick them up with a small wire hook. Once in your hand they usually won't bite. Don't be afraid of being bitten by the babies. They can't hurt you and they will calm down. Buy a baby and handle it gently. It should be fine. Rin.
