of restraining a 6' racer. Only if I can wear full body armor to restrain the monster!! I have tangled with 3 and 4 footers, and they were pretty mean, I could just imagine how wild one that size would be!!

On the matter of the racers being in the blue, two that were the most blue werent in the blue. The one was the construction worker, and I held the thing and really got a good look at it. Very nice snake, was tempting to keep it when the guy offered. The other was the one at Bernheim, and it wasnt in the blue either. I have seen alot of the blue colored racers between here in KY and down in SE MO, especially around the Mingo refuge. My Greatgrandma's land bordered the refuge, so we were always down in the swamp fishing and looking for snakes! LOL
Take care
Brian

: Well here's my take. I think all the racers found in our area are southern blacks. I think when you start getting to an area around Daniel Boone NP, and east we have northerns. Remember, on the outside, northerns and southern are essentially identicle. I do not believe that the blue racer (foxi) occurs in the state. What makes it confusing is there is some individual differences in shading from one specimen to the next. This is to be expected (milks and hognose are even better examples of this!). Something else, a racer seen while in a shed phase will often appear to be gray, or even blue as the old skin prepares to be slougthed off.
:BTW, I know of a place in Hardin county where an absolutelly huge racer lives. I see him a couple of times every year, but haven't photographed him yet. He doesn't want to cooperate..hehe! Next year, I hope to temporarily restrain this brute for some meausurements and pics. This guy's 6' and big around as a beer bottle!
:Would you mind going with me and restraining him while I take some pics! LOL!
