:..snakes.
That's true! My heart is with the NA rats.
:He certainly does have lots of red, however. And a handsome snake he is. I've always liked the gray in the Baird's and happen to think the babies are quite nice looking.
I like the babies as well, watching them change must be fascinating!
:You certainly are biased towards American ratsnakes though. As a person who keeps mostly Asian ratsnakes, I was a little put out by this.
I'm not not sure why you felt that way. I was just saying how I felt about NA rats, and my opinion on how they seem to be neglected.
I opened your post because I appreciate the beauty of all snakes and wanted to see your Baird's. I think there are plenty of nice American ratsnakes to keep a person busy, but no need to imply that we should think American above anything else.
I was not implying that one should think American above all else, just reminding that we shouldn't forget about the rats on our own shores.
You're not going to say you think keeping Asians is unpatriotic, are you?
I'm Canadian, not an american patriot! :oP Keep asians all you like! I like them as well, in fact, I have 1.1 taiwans! I certainly wish I had more asian snakes, but up here, they are hard to come by and quite pricey, why I know of taiwans being sold for $300 CAD!
:Actually, I don't think there is a lack of interest in American ratsnakes. I really feel it is just the opposite. I know lots of people that keep Baird's and other American rats. I keep a couple corns, Great Plains rats, and a pair of Senticolis.
Up here, there are not a lot of ratsnakes, mostly corns and some black rats, a few scattered everglades, leucy texas rats are at a premium! I would very much like to see some emoyri's and Senticolis available.
If anything, I think there's a little less variety in the American rats. After all, it has been said that the Asians will be divided into many more genera, leaving only a few in the Elaphe. I think eventually there will be many genera that we will call ratsnakes and they will be from all over the world.
:I would agree that we should not discount the American ratsnakes, but let's not neglect the Asians either. There's plenty of room for all of them on this forum, as far as I'm concerned anyway.
:TC
I read over my post and even asked my boyfriend where I came across strongly and implied that one should neglect the asian species, I only meant to stir up interest in NA rats and not make any statement on the asian elaphe. I certainly did not mean to offend, only remind everyone of the beauty of our "native" species. That's all and I apologize if you felt put off. I could very easily post a picture of my taiwan and rage on and on about how wonderous they. (Which they are!) But that wasn't the point of my post.
