And I read it exactly as you posted it.

And that was the point!

Patriotism certainly isn't an outstanding Canadian trait.

Well, you know, I'm actually a great Canadian patriot! OH CANADA! Hee hee.

Well, I can't say that I've got any great desire to own Asians. As far as I'm concerned, there's enough variety among the North American species to probably keep me happy for the rest of my life. If I didn't limit myself, I'd be over-run by colubrids of all species. One has to be practical, and to set some boundaries on how many species one wants to work with.

I wish I had your self control. I am totally overun with species, but I am happy with that.

You're correct in your observation about the relative unavailability of NA Elaph, North of The Border. Importation is a daunting and expensive proposition if one uses any method other than carrying them oneself or having them carried by a friend, and shipping them within Canada is also quite expensive.

Luckily I am close to the border and am able to access the Daytona show and the Puyallup shows when they show up.

For the most part, government restrictions have nothing to do with it (except in Ontario and Alberta, provinces in which the keeping of E. o. obsoleta is illegal). Anyhow, I'm building up a breeding colony of various E. o. ssp., and a few corn snakes. My big project this year, was importation of over a dozen babies bred by Kathy Love and by Dwight Good (and two pairs of E. o. spiloides, from other breeders). Hopefully, I'll be able to make these beautiful species more readily available in Canada.

That is fantastic Patricia. My current NA rat collection consists of 1.2 leucy texas rats, 2.0 black rat, 0.2 yellow rat and 1.0 glades rat. I had at one point an adult female everglades rat, but stupidly I sold her. Of course I have my 1.0 bairdi! Vanan has 2.3 black rats and 0.1 glades. Unfortunately I am selling my greenish rat (yellow x black) today (he's a little pain) and one male black rat to make room. I also had Flake, a frosted corn (grey x corn), but he some escaped the herp room one day and I found his coiled little body infront of our front door. I still miss Flake, he had a great personality and a gentle way about him.

I would really like to get myself Senticolis and another yellow rat. My favouite obseleta is "quadrivittata". Barring the fact that leucy tx rats are not a natural morph, otherwise they are most likely my top favouite species of all.

I would really really really love to get albino yellow rats, something awful, and I know Vanan desires those licorice stick rats. Ooh, NA rats!

Rats in general, how can you not love them!

~Katt
