Just picked a new grey rat up today @ MARS. He looks pretty good over all. When I was handling him on the way home, he was blowing a bit because I wouldn't let him roam the truck and I noticed the edge of his mouth seemed wet when he partly opened it. I gently opened his mouth fully and saw that there was what looked like either thick saliva or thin mucous. He doesn't appear to have an RI (no gaping, popping or raspy breathing) but I was wondering if that might be early signs of an RI or if rat snakes just normally have some mucous/saliva. BTW, I'm not new to snakes - I've kept boas and pythons for 10+ years - but with them, if they have a wet mouth, it means an RI or early stages.
Thanks in advance for any input.
