I rather doubt that he'll ever turn really black. If he's a year old, his colour is virtually what it will always be.
By the time my babies are six or seven months old, they're black, and showing practically no blotching. You baby looks to me to be a "greenish" phase.

::This is a pic of my black rat snake. I took them tonight and measured him. He is a year old this month and 32 - 33" long!! Growing like a weed!! His colors havent really darkened up that much. But he is only a year old. I think he may be a fairly decent sized black snake!
