I tuned in to the show just as he found that snake. I thought it was pathetic that he just made up a name for it "Glossy bellied racer". I am pretty sure it was a radiated ratsnake. It had a funky pattern but some radiateds are patterned like that. It was WAAAAAY too big to be a monticollaris.
:John, after going through the Shultz Monograph, we believe that the snake was in fact a Collared trinket rat snake "elaphe helena monticollaris" Although it does resemble a Radiated rat snake, most radiatas have striping and not the pattern that that snake possessed. It also closely resembles some of the other sub species of trinket rats. Many people here in the USA are working with some of the species of trinket rats and they should be easy to locate if you are interested in them, we hope this helps.
