: Whether the snake is a hybrid or not is a tough call. John Malone found it while doing a herp survey for TPWD at Lost Maples and thought it might be a hybrid. I agreed at the time, based partly on its size, how dark the top of the head was, and its temperament (TX Rat all they way!).
: However, in Werler and Dixon's Texas Snakes, they mention a size record for bairdi collected by John at that site and I believe this is that snake. So they regarded it as bairdi (it is preserved in the TCWC I believe).
: Tough call for me.
