: does anybody know how to deter black rat snakes from living under my backyard cement slab porch. last year i caught six of them (5'-6' long) and safely re-located them in a nature preserve in my neighborhood. i've now discovered three more this Spring. I certainly don't want to kill them, but i would like to keep them away from my house!!! any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Ken, most of us think you are pretty lucky to have such great wildlife in your yard. What kind of rodent population do you have? Do some of them come inside in the winter and visit? Remember: Less ratsnakes MAY result in more rodents. They are presently keeping them under control, so you may ask which you like better. I also have to ask...Why do you want to get rid of them? I know...most folks are at least somewhat scared by them... We give you lots of credit for not wanting to harm them...lots of people are not as snake-friendly. Thanks. But really...they are probably doing you alot more harm than good.
Maybe you could round up some of the babies and list them on kingsnake.com's for sale links! They could become a business...you would be keeping them somewhat more under control. And you would LOVE them because they would be making money for you. Just a thought. Mark
