: : : I have a 2 year old female russian rat. Do they like to have another one with them or do they prefer to be alone?

: What Chris said is generally true. However, I have seven Russians in two cages. They are quite gregarious. They are all the same size too. They seem to get along very well. However, don't try to feed them when they're together. Always separate them for feeding. Also when they get big enough, they will breed, if not kept separate. Good luck....Terry.
I have two male russians in the same vivarium and they have been together since they were juveniles, they are now four years old and I have never seen them fight and neither shows any signs of dominance
As Terry says, ALWAYS feed them seperately, I always take mine out of the vivarium and feed them in separate sweater boxes. Russians generally eat any mouse you put in front of them and will think nothing of trying to snatch the mouse from the others mouth.
Apart from that, I would think either a male or another female would be fine but note that Russians do sometimes mate in the autumn... so you 'could' end up with a pregnant female without overwintering.
