: : I have a 2 year old female russian rat. Do they like to have another one with them or do they prefer to be alone?
: Most snakes (russian rats included) seem to do the best when they're housed individually. They don't really seem to need companionship...except during breeding, which is the only time I put mine together. Anytime two snakes are put together in a confined space one will become dominant and one will be submissive. This doesn't always cause problems but it can cause unnecessary stress or feeding problems with the submissive animal. (not to mention parasites or diseases if both animals haven't been properly quarantined.) Good luck,
: Chris
What Chris said is generally true. However, I have seven Russians in two cages. They are quite gregarious. They are all the same size too. They seem to get along very well. However, don't try to feed them when they're together. Always separate them for feeding. Also when they get big enough, they will breed, if not kept separate. Good luck....Terry.
