: Hi ya'll, just checking in and giving a well needed "GOOD JOB!" to all of you that have been successful with hatching the "TRUE GREAT AMERICAN SNAKE". Granted that when speaking of animals, a "PHASE" is defined as: (a genetic variant manifested by the occurrence of a skin or pelage color unlike the wild type of the animal group in which it appears....)Does this mean that there are no red throat Indigos in the wild?? Also, I Have been urking with this "red phase" thing - granted that for the "general herp public" a "phase" is an epitaph that soon passes, whats up with this? I see that "Red Phase" Indigos can fetch a hefty 700+ price while a "black phase" will normally go for $400-500??
: SOOO, by acquiring a "red phase" does this mean that in the future the my 700+ snake may "phase" into a normal black and the blacks may "phase" into red?? So what Im trying to get to is: Why not call them Red throats, Red Chins, Red FACE?
: OR am I totally WRONG? - somebody please school me!
: ps - BTW I am the proud owner or 1.1 Easterns: Male= White Throat, Female = RED THROAT :o)
: Take Care!
Edgar,
My pair are cut and dried. Father is red. His cheeks are red, his throat is red for a long way, maybe a third of his body. He has those nice black lines on the side of his face running through the red cheeks. Mother is black.
Babies seem to have come out the same. Full red or black. I'll know for sure after they shed.
I think if someone is selling babies that just have a red chin, they need to qualify it but when we say "reds" and "blacks", we all know what we mean.
I've heard the reds come from a specific area, but that's heresay. The other guys here might know more.
Hope this helped.
