from what I have seen with my animals and others I have seen exhibiting this behavior, the temp has not made a difference. But if that is the case (I will keep a more watchful eye the next couple of feedings), it means they are a lot more thoughtful about what is ingested than something like hydrodynastes.
I was feeding last night and watched several animals do that with warm mice, and the same behavior was exhibited. The possibility that they are examining how decomposed the dead animal is, is intriguing. My FWC would never even consider that and in my opinion is very simialar in many behaviors and intelligence (it even watches me, not unlike the indigos).
