: My cribo still doesn't want to take a f/t rat unless he first gets a live one. I've tested the limits of my puppetry skills to make the f/t rat look alive, but so far no luck. I was wondering if anyone has ever had luck with braining a rat and then having a snake take it? I really want to get this guy over his need for live rats.

sometimes, when they come over to inspect, if they feel warmth coming off the food they'll assume it's good to go and will immediately seize it. you could also practice 'tough love' by feeding less frequently until he gets the idea. a really well fed, new snake is going to be choosier and more difficult than a hungry, new snake.
