: The rats I give it are right out of the warm water, so they are usually warm. Maybe too warm? I try to get them around body temperature.

i forgot to mention that cutting the rat's throat w/ scissors [remove fur and expose the dermis] is also an inducement. if you stick to it and don't cave, he'll get the idea and start cooperating. the fact that he eats live for you is a real good sign but you're right.....i wouldn't encourage it. when he's hungry enough, he'll take what's offered. let us know how you make out.......
