I'm going to give you my experience. I have a yearling male eastern. He is fast and aggressive. He srikes repeatedly when approaced (yes with mouth wide open) and goes ballistic when food is around. This being said he has never bitten me, handles OK, but not a lap snake. If your easily intimidated, you may not like easterns, of course I'm sure temperment varies. I also own a Blackmilk, she is very similar to the eastern at feeding time, but a very calm, handable snake otherwise. I gotta believe pound for pound one of the most powerful snakes out there. I love them both, but vote for a Blackmilk for a better pet. My favorite snake is still the eastern. I hope I didn't confuse you.
