My adults do vary some...NONE of them bite when handled, but some do the ballistic thing when food is around.
It is wise (especially if you only have one or 2) to feed them in an enclosure other than their cage. otherwise...when the door gets opened, they think food is coming and when the think food is coming...well, it's like a jeckyl and hyde thing.
The advantages over black milks (in my opinion) is that they are on average MUCH larger, and are more alert inquisitive snakes.
PS...I HAVE been bitten by wild eastern indigos. Their temperments DO vary. but, for the most part, expect a very docile, handleable snake that is a little nutty when they think they are getting fed.
