suggestions for new pics...help?

In the past I have been taking photos with my film camera and scanning them in. I have recently been having scanner trouble, so I’m thinking of investing in a digital camera.

Help here?

I have seen them from anywhere from $100 to $1000

I’d like something I can get good shots and closeups , but don’t want to break the bank too much…
What are you guys using?
